Green Business Methods

Green Business Methods

At The Kastrop Group, Inc. Architects we are striving to be a green business and use earth-friendly methods and materials.  We have taken the following steps over the years to fulfill this commitment:

  • Consumable paper products purchased for our office have been recycled with as high as possible post-consumer content (printer paper, copier paper, paper towels and facial tissue and toilet tissue).
  • Converted our printing processes to use 1/2 size plotting and duplex plotting and printing whenever possible.
  • In-house check prints are printed on scratch paper (paper that has been used before, but printed only on one side).  We re-use scratch paper for our fax machine.
  • Ladder block exterior wall intersections.  This not only diminishes the amount of lumber that is used, but also increases the space for more insulation.
  • Installed an outdoor paper-recycling container for the businesses on our block and we recycle ALL used paper, boxes, and shredded material.
  • Where possible we are converting paper files to online files.
  • Instituted a computer component-recycling program.
  • Operate as much as possible without indoor lighting (using natural light).
  • Installed high-quality solar shades on windows to reduce heat exchange in summer.
  • Instituted a company household battery recycling program for employees and their families.
  • Keep dishware on hand for employees to avoid plastic, polystyrene or disposable container waste.  We have almost no solid waste garbage.
  • We use earth-friendly cleaning products.
  • Our latest effort is research into our carbon footprint and carbon-offsets so that we can become a carbon-neutral business.
